Newsletter March 2022

Dear ,

Welcome to the latest edition of our monthly newsletter. In this edition we report on the growth of solar energy in Germany, which we are supporting with the latest placement of the bond SUNfarming.

Our SDG of the month is SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy. We support this Development Goal with our latest transaction, financing a portfolio of the CHP projects.

We hope you enjoy reading the March edition of our newsletter and do look forward to hearing from you.

With best regards
Frank, Lars, Stefan and the whole team at SDG INVESTMENTS®

SDG OF THE MONTH
7 AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
The seventh Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 7) aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Many sectors such as business, education, agriculture, and healthcare depend on reliable energy.
Working towards this goal is particularly important as it is linked to other Sustainable Development Goals. Putting a focus on universal access to energy services, higher energy efficiency and increased use of renewable energy through new economic and employment opportunities is essential for creating more sustainable and inclusive communities and resilience to environmental issues such as climate change.

FIGURE OF THE MONTH: PV systems in Germany in 2021
Photovoltaic systems in Germany produced around 48,4 TWh in 2021. Solar photovoltaic systems fed approx. 44,6 TWh into the public grid in 2020. Production increased by approx. 1,5% compared to the previouos year.

The installed PV capacity at the end of October 2021 was approx. 58,4 GW. The increase in 2021 amounted to approx. 4,4 GW until October. The maximum solar capacity was approx. 37,8 GW on April 27, 2021. The maximum share of solar energy in the total daily energy of all electricity sources was 30% on May 30. From March to August 2021, the monthly power generation of PV systems was higher than that of coal-fired power plants.

Together, solar and wind turbines produced approx. 162 TWh in 2021, 15 TWh less than in 2020. The decline was weather-related. While 2020 was an above-average wind year, 2021 was rather below average. For solar energy, 2020 was average and 2021 below average.

1 TWh = 1 terawatt-hour = 1000 gigawatts-hours (GWh) = 1 million megawatt-hours (MWh) = 1 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh)
